The foals of Serpentine Farm

2008:

All our foals this year were sired by Jalisco X and are all of outstanding quality. It seems that every year the foals are just better and better, even though we are using some of the the same mares (and one new one). Maybe it's the weird weather we've been having. Whatever it is, we like the trend. The fashion du jour seems to be redheads - we had three of them!

Although the five foals presented below are by different types of mares, they are all actually very similar. They have a lot of substance, are very correct in their conformation and movement, and have that great Jalisco trait of curiosity and confidence. They are a delight to be around, like being in a yard full of puppies!

We began the year with another lovely colt from Jimena de la Parra, a grey named SF Ganoso. He is just like his two big brothers: robust, animated, and with a super confident and friendly personality.

Holy Toledo followed closely behind. He is owned by Velvet Perry, Serpentine Farm's barn manager. Simon is out of Misstrudystarkissgirl, an APHA. Simon is eligible for registration as a Half-Andalusian, American Azteca, and Pinto. Simon is built very strongly and has extravagant, floating gaits. He is bold and curious and loves to be petted and loved on.
Following Simon, we had this year's first filly: a lovely redhead out of the Oldenburg mare Paloma. This is Paloma's first foal. SF Prestancia is a tall, powerfully built youngster with excellent potential for dressage and jumping. Like her mother her gaits are floaty and forward. And of course, since she is a Jalisco baby, she is bold and friendly and every bit a lady.
We inaugurated the horrendous fire storms in Northern California with the birth of our last two 2008 fools. The first, born 15 days prematurely, is the chestnut Pure Spanish Andalusian colt, SF Heredero. His mother is the Iberico D daughter Dulce. He is perfect in every way and will be retained by Serpentine Farm as a future breeding stallion. Besides having perfect conformation and an extravagant, uphill trot, Heredero has that unique quality that can only be described as "IT".

A few days later we had our second filly, and third chestnut, for the year; SF Verbena, out of the TB mare Valentine. Verbena is an extremely tall and well built gal with the most beautiful head. Verbena is the most curious and outgoing of the lot, following us around and demanding scratches and attention.

Still dealing with the extreme smoke, the new foals were put on precautionary antibiotics and restricted activity in order to protect their baby lungs.

2007:

This year brought our fourth Premium Oldenburg foal in a row and also our third ISR/Oldenburg NA foal inspection Champion: Ricochet SF. We also welcomed a future breeding stallion: SF Xochipilli. Suzanne reed chose one of her colts, by Jalisco X, to keep for herself - he was just too nice to part with. Overall the year was all about future athletes!

Ricochet SF, a Premium Oldenburg colt (Regazzoni x Tequini) started the year off by being named the top colt at his ISR/Oldenburg NA foal inspection.

Eight hours later SF Xochipilli arrived in the deep pasture grass under the sheltering arms of a huge oak tree. This stunning tobiano Azteca colt (Jalisco X x Misstrudystarkissgirl-APHA-owned by Velvet Perry) was immediately identified as future stallion material. Some horses have that elusive quality only described as "IT", and "IT" was apparent at Xochipilli's birth.

2006:

Serpentine Farm's largest foal crop to date had a lot of variety and our very first fillies!

Thalla Leamsa SF (Regazzoni x Tequini) arrived and was an immediate keeper. She followed me from birth and thus earned her name, which is Gailic for "come along with me". A Premium Oldenburg filly, she was top filly at her foal inspection and earned her mother her second star award.
SF Estrella, an Iberian Warmblood filly by Jalisco X and out of my favorite riding mare, Metis (Holsteiner), came next with her tremendous athleticism and charming personality.
Our young chestnut Pure Spanish Andalusian mare, Dulce, presented us with a nearly white palomino Andalusian colt named SF Amarillo. His color is so unusual, and his quality so great, that he was sold as soon as he was weaned.
SF Amistoso brought up the rear. The second son of Jalisco X and Jimena de la Parra, he is tall and elegant and as friendly as his name.

2005:

Boys, boys, boys... all sired by Jalisco X and every one an athlete!

SF Lladro, an Iberian Warmblood gelding out of the Holsteiner mare Metis, was 44 inches tall at birth! I named him Lladro because he was as perfect and artistic as those wonderful sculptures.
My lovely and talented Oldenburg mare, Tequini, produced SF Sorprender. Perfect in every way, he was a "surprise", arriving two weeks early and without warning out in the pasture.
Serpentine Indigo came last, but not least, out of Jimena de la Parra - Serpentine Farm's first purebred Andalusian foal.

2004:

The smallest foal crop due to the fact that I was busy building the current farm in 2003 and 2004. What we lacked in quantity we more than made up for in quality..

Reuben SF, the eventual Premium Oldenburg stallion (Regazzoni x Tequini**), arrived a week after I moved the horses to the new barn. He literally cantered out of his mother and hasn't stopped since.

2003:

The first foal crop under the name of Serpentine Farm. Two colts, both harbingers of what was to come.

Wrainmaker SF is Tequini's first foal and the first indicator of what an unbelievably valuable broodmare she is. A premium foal by Wradar, he was res. champion at his foal inspection.
Afortunado SF was our first Iberian Warmblood and the reason I eventually acquired Jalisco X. The Andalusian x Warmblood cross was outstanding and I wanted to make more!
