Below are answers to frequently asked questions about our clincs:
Who can attend clinics hosted by Serpentine Farm? |
All levels of riders and horses are welcome. All breeds are welcome. Attendees have included western and trail riders as well as those interested in dressage. We have also had several gaited horses participate. Serpentine Farm chooses clinicians who are open to anyone interested in improving their skills and their horses' developement.
What can I expect to get out of the clinic? |
The clinicians will do their best meet your needs, provided you communicate to them what you need or want to work on. In some cases the clinician may ride your horse or work with you and the horse on ground work skills. Remember, you are paying for a lesson to benefit YOU.
Why is payment required in advance, and is non-refundable? |
The clinicians require a minimum fee to cover their time and expenses (which often includes traveling a significant distance). In order to ensure that we have an adequate number of attendees well before the clinic date, we require pre-payment. Refunds are not given unless the clinic is full and we can fill your spot from a waiting list. Again, we must ensure that the clincian is paid once he/she commits to traveling here. Of course a refund will be given if the clinic is cancelled.
Why are haul-in/grounds fees and admistrative fees charged? |
Besides the obvious cost of providing and maintaining a top quality facility for the clinic, the facility owner must also pay for additional labor, utilities, and insurance during a clinic. The administrative fee is quite small and covers costs incurred for advertising and communicating with attendees. (The facility owner and organizer do not make a profit on clinics. We do this because we're crazy about the sport!)
Can I audit the clinic? |
Auditing policies vary with each clinician. Generally a paying rider can stay and audit the rest of the clinic for free. Sometimes a fee is charged to those who wish to watch but do not ride. Check ahead of time to find out what the policy is for that particular clinician.
Can I have my ride video taped ? |
At this time we do not offer professional videographers. As demand increases we will be able to offer that service for a nominal fee. You are welcome to bring someone along to video tape your ride for you. Please be aware that they may be governed by a particular clinician's auditing policy, however, so check ahead.
Can I stable my horse during the clinic? |
Day time and overnight stabling is available for a fee and must be arranged prior to the clinic. You must provide your own feed. Space is available on a first-come first-served basis. We can often accommodate stallions. There are a few paddocks near the arenas that are available for short term use during the day free of charge.
Is there space to warm my horse up? |
There is a round pen and a warm up arena available for longeing and riding. Turnouts and free-longeing are not allowed during clinics. In case of bad weather you may be able to warm up in the indoor as long as you do not interfere with the current lesson.
Is seating provided for auditing? |
There is limited seating, so it is recommended that you bring your own folding chair for auditing. The seating area is under the roof.
Can I rinse my horse after a hot weather clinic? |
There is a wash rack available for paying clinic attendees. Please be aware that we are on a well and so we ask that you conserve water. |
